“Be Thou My Vision” represents the living-out of a Christian’s slavery to God. Because God is the Lord, it follows that God is the one who directs a saint’s life – his thoughts, words and deeds. Consequently, slaves of Christ should pray for God to be their vision. This is part of a slave’s total devotion to his Master.
lyrics
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
Be thou my wisdom, thou my true word,
I ever with thee and thou with me Lord;
Thou my great Father, and I thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.
Be my Vision, O Lord;
Be my Wisdom and my Light!
Be My Vision, O be my Sight;
God of Wisdom, Lord of Life!
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise:
Thou mine inheritance now and always;
Thou and thou only first in my heart;
High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art.
High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O Bright Heaven's sun!;
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

This is a great collection of settings for the Psalms. It's diverse in it's music as well as in the poetry. Some has a Reformation/Puritan feel, others are much more modern retellings. Garrett Lee
