about

Structured in a quasi-limerick form, these words survey six episodes in Jesus’ life. Jesus says of Himself that “the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matt. 20:28). From His miraculous birth to His public ministry to His death and resurrection, the Son of Man lived an unmistakable life of service.

lyrics

When You were in a manger born,
You showed us God in human form;
The Son of God became like the men He would save,
When You were in a manger born.

When You were on a boat, on a sea,
You talked about soils and seed,
Of human hearts prepared–will good fruit grow there?
When You were on a boat, on a sea.

When You were at the mountain’s height,
You taught about the Kingdom life,
Of old laws fulfilled, of new ones instilled,
When You were at the mountain’s height.

When You were in the garden’s keep,
You prayed at your Father’s feet
That He would be pleased Your weight to relieve,
When You were in the garden’s keep.

When You were hung on Calv’ry’s cross,
You gave your life – redemption’s cost –
To ransom from sin Your people, Your kin!
When You were hung on Calv’ry’s cross.

When You arose from death’s vain hold,
Your body bore the future told:
Since we have been saved, like You, we’ll be raised,
When You arose from death’s vain hold.
